Sonar development, unfortunately, has fallen second to school work -- which, as you know, increases exponentially as you progress through school. However, I have taken on the aide of the Cal Poly Linux Users' Group (www.cplug.org) to help development of sonar along. There are two or three active developers from that group that are contributing bug fixes, and a few major improvements. In other news, sonar 1.2.2 will be coming out very soon. Expect a release by tomorrow at the latest, if not tonight. I will post a version bump request to gentoo's portage system. Sonar 1.2.2 has a few major changes. First, we have changed style. We are now using the style of Kangleipak, which is included in the .indent.pro that is checked out with the CVS repository. Feel free to run indent on any source code you submit. Second, we have reworked a few things in the plugin API, most notable being the way arguments are passed to plugins. In sonar 1.2.1, you had to craft a special '-p' option that was very counter-intuitive, and could result in clobbering another plugin. In sonar 1.2.2, all the plugin-specific arguments are passed after you select your plugin. For example, to set a TTL of 150 for the ICMP scan, you could do the following: `sonar -sI,TTL=150 target.example.com` For other options, run `sonar -sI` with no other arguments. Another big change we made was to remove the receiving thread from the ACK scan. It seemed to me that it was only complicating matters, and most of the bloat of 1.2.1 was a direct result of that thread. Now, the receiving is done on a per-port basis, so timing should be (somewhat) fixed. That said, there are still a few outstanding bugs with the ack scan. If anyone wants to re-write a new/better version, I would welcome it with open arms. Expect sonar 1.2.2 to be released tomorrow, May 6th, 2004! -- red0x From red0x at users.sourceforge.net Thu May 6 13:23:10 2004 From: red0x at users.sourceforge.net (red0x) Date: Thu, 06 May 2004 13:23:10 -0700 Subject: [CPLUG Chatter] sonar 1.2.2 released Message-ID: <1083874990.18619.13.camel@xpider> Today, May 6th 2004, I released sonar 1.2.2! Sonar 1.2.2 contains alot of major useability updates, as well as some placeholder code for new and exciting features in 1.2.3. I have taken on a few developers, and I am always looking for more. If you are interested in developing for sonar, or any other autosec tools, let me know and we'll get you on board. Look for sonar 1.2.2 here on sourceforge, or on gentoo's portage. -- red0x From rpeterso at calpoly.edu Thu May 6 23:15:19 2004 From: rpeterso at calpoly.edu (Rohen Peterson) Date: Thu, 06 May 2004 23:15:19 -0700 Subject: [CPLUG Chatter] Fonts in KDE/XF86/Gentoo Message-ID: <1083910519.6348.12.camel@6-allhosts> I just installed Gentoo and I am having the exact same problem that I had in Fedora, where fonts are larger than they are supposed to be. It is especially noticeable in GTK programs (Gaim, Evolution, Firefox/Mozilla). I remember that it had to do with the way X was started in Fedora, with a -dpi 100 command. Is there a place in Gentoo where I can do a similar proccess? I am not using XFS, as everyone says it's unnecessary. Currently, I have XDM in my default runlist, which in turn launches KDE, as per the Gentoo Handbook. Maybe the problem is with a KDE setting? I don't have Gnome installed. For now, more searching on the internet I guess.
