From rpeterso at calpoly.edu Sun Jan 22 20:07:37 2006 From: rpeterso at calpoly.edu (Rohen Peterson) Date: Sun, 22 Jan 2006 20:07:37 -0800 Subject: [CPLUG Chatter] Not Linux, but its for CalPoly and you guys should know Message-ID: <43D45689.2020200@calpoly.edu> Hey everyone, Please take the time and read up on this stuff, as it involves MANY of our current member's school-related activities (ie choir, the bands, the debate team, the hybrid vehicle team). I encourage everyone to vote for this referendum, as the benefits of this money far outweigh the costs to an individual. Don't vote against it out of spite. Please let others know about this vote, and have them also vote for it. Student apathy really bites when other students college experience hangs in the balance. Rohen Peterson NOTE: THIS DOES NOT REFLECT THE OFFICIAL OPINION OF CPLUG OR CALPOLY INSTRUCTIONALLY RELATED ACTIVITIES REFERENDUM On February 22-23, 2006, students will be asked to vote on a proposal to increase by $10 (to a total of $16.98) the quarterly fee for non-athletics Instructionally Related Activities (IRA). These are activities and laboratory experiences that are at least partially sponsored by an academic discipline or instructional department and that are integrally related to its formal instructional offerings. Examples are performing arts, hybrid vehicle development, and agricultural judging. Currently, Cal Poly recognizes 62 IRA programs, with about 5,000 students participating directly and many more affected indirectly. The fee that supports these activities has not bee raised in over thirteen years, while their number and costs have increased significantly. The fee revenue no longer covers the costs, causing a shortfall that has been closed with temporary funding which will not be available in coming years. The proposed fee increase would be used both to secure support for existing programs and to provide for the addition of new programs. More information about the referendum will be posted no later than January 18 at http://studentaffairs.calpoly.edu/feeref
