From katherine.earls at hotmail.com Fri Sep 25 20:48:26 2009 From: katherine.earls at hotmail.com (Katherine Earls) Date: Fri, 25 Sep 2009 20:48:26 -0700 Subject: [CPLUG Chatter] IEEE Xtream Programming Competition Message-ID: Hello, My name is Katherine Earls and I am the IEEE Club Ambassador for the 09-10 school year. One of my duties as Club Ambassador is to let other clubs know about IEEE events and projects that we are hosting/working on. Attached is a flyer on one of the events we are trying to set up, you might have seen if you are an IEEE member. I figured that both ACM and C-plug might be interested, however if you know of any other clubs that might have members who would be interested in this challenge please forward this e-mail or send me the clubs e-mail address. On October 24th IEEE will be hosting a 24-hour online global contest; you must be an IEEE member to compete in this challenge. The competitors will form groups of 3 and will be faced with a challenging set of programming problems. The languages you will be programming in are: C/C++ (using gcc), Java (using Sun?s JDK) and C# (using Mono). More information about the challenge can be found on: http://www.ieee.org/web/membership/students/scholarshipsawardscontests/ieeextreme.html#Overview I would appreciate it if you could let me know as soon as possible if any of your members would be up for the challenge. We would like to know how many people would actually be interested in this event so we can submit the team names. Each member will get a free T-shirt! If you are interested and don?t have a team that?s ok too I am sure there are others that would be interested in forming a team. We will also mention this event in our General meeting that is next week on Thursday, October 1st Building 20 room 132! If you are not already an IEEE member you should defiantly stop by our general meeting and find out what IEEE is about?there will be free pizza! If you do want to join IEEE please visit: www.ieee.org/join. Any questions, comments or concerns feel free to contact me! P.S ACM ? I e-mailed you guys during the summer to the e-mail provided in your website I was just curious to know if you received it. C-plug ? I was unable to find a specific e-mail to send this to so I hope you guys get this! Thank you for your time, Katherine Earls. Message-ID: Hello, IEEE will be hosting a Bowling night on Wednesday October 14th at the Mustang Lanes from 7:30pm ? 9:30pm. Would your respective clubs be interested in joining in and co-hosting this event? Last year I believe we had quite a successful bowling night and were hoping to do it again this year! Please let me know as soon as possible whether or not your club would be interested! We are planning on announcing this event during our general meeting this upcoming Thursday, October 1st. It would be great if we could mention the clubs that will also be part of this event! If your club is interested: We reserved all 10 bowling lanes and are planning to order 10-15 pizzas from Costco. Renting out the Bowling lanes costs 11 dollars an hour per lane, so ten lanes for two whole hours would come to $222 dollars. 10-15 Pizzas come to around approximately $200. We can cancel or change our reservations anytime as long as it is at least two days in advance. Since the total cost to rent out the lanes and purchase the Pizzas will come to around $400 we were thinking about $50 - $100 per club. We understand that some clubs do not have as much funding as others so whatever you can offer will be appreciated! Admission to bowling night will be free for members of the clubs that participate in this event and a three dollar charge for non-members. Any comments, questions, concerns please feel free to contact me. Thank you for your time, Katherine Earls.
