I've actually found git simpler than svn for managing my own stuff.  The fact 
that there's no central repository to setup and worry about makes my life 
easier -- version history is all right there, so if I move things around, 
switch computers, or whatever, I don't have to worry about it.

When I was using SVN, I had to take into account (particularly for things like 
backups) that my checkout was stored in one place, and the version history was 
stored somewhere else.
