Flyer looks good to me. I 2nd the web based IRC client, that sounds like it would be useful. Anyone one have any idea how easy it is to plug one of those into WordPress?

Ilona

On Tue, Mar 30, 2010 at 9:32 PM, Eric Gustafson <subwire@gmail.com> wrote:
I'd say now is the best time to start up a recruitment drive, since Open House is coming fast, and there are people milling about everywhere... We probably will start the same discussion with White Hat soon
My biggest suggestion, as someone who supports CPLUG, is to not actually rely on IRC the way we currently do. I know it's tradition to show people at FYM how to use the IRC channel, and plug it whenever possible, but to most people i've helped, that part produced the glazed-over "yeah whatever" look.
The easiest solution to that is to install one of the various web based IRC clients on cplug.org. Then we can simply tell people "If you get stuck, go to this website, and ask us a question and get a live answer!" It's simple, compelling, and changes nothing about how things already work to long-time members.
Once we do that, we can even put it out to all the professors that teach Linux-related coursework to the uninitiated (10x, etc) as a free source of instant help and hangout for those interested on learning more.
Speaking of White Hat, I've had this idea on the back burner for some time of doing a joint CPLUG/White Hat PGP/GPG talk and keysigning party. If anyone else out there (especially execboard types) is interested, let me know, and I can get the ball rolling with the rest of the officers.

Anyway, props to you Erik for putting that together, and I'm happy to lend a hand if I can.
And yeah, I should probably get back on the IRC channel soon...
